My daughter is currently deciding between Bath and Lancaster for Sport & Exercise Science! Bath is a top ranking uni for it whereas Lancaster is an excellent uni but sports is a smaller & relatively new course there however it is a part of the School of Medicine and that, along with personal recommendations and loving her visit to Lancaster Uni, is a draw for my daughter. Loughborough is synonymous with Sport and particularly attractive for elite athletes, Birmingham also has an excellent rep. Top Scottish universities for sports include Glasgow Aberdeen & Edinburgh. Distance runners are a focus for St Mary’s Twickenham and apparently Leeds Beckett has great amenities. We didn’t look at some of these because geography, also didn’t look at Surrey for this reason and also Exeter but again good reputations. There are many facets to a sports degree so I would think about the university setting (city v campus & geographic location), course content and of course entry requirements…. Loughborough is A*AA, Bath AAA but others are lower. Good luck!!

What are your views on the Uni ? Does he stay on campus
Hi, we are both really impressed with the uni. Lots of face 2 face lectures and he is really enjoying it. He lives on Manor Park which is lovely it's about a 15 minute walk to campus. You can't choose where to live but you can put why you would like live on campus or Manor park. He is a swimmer and wanted to be nearer the leisure centre. Hope this helps

Loughborough has been ranked top sports uni in the world for many years now. Its a lovely campus with great facilities with lots of international students. For sports be aware that it is not surprisingly quite competitive.

Wanted to add campus is 20 minutes walking distance of the town centre many international students stay on campus throughout their course which is an option for them. Night life is generally centred around the large student union but 3 major cites are easily accessible by short train journey.

Exeter, Bath, Loughborough, Portsmouth, Swansea and Lancaster - we looked at all of these and my eldest couldn’t decide between Exeter and Swansea - she’s thriving at Swansea and about to spend a year in California at California State uni which Swansea has links with before returning to Swansea for her final year.

Portsmouth does a lot of research specifically with polar expeditions, and extreme environments and their facilities are slightly more extensive and specialised with that in mind.

Exeter was lovely and friendly and exercise science is based on the smaller st Luke’s campus but not far from large main campus.

Lancaster is a smaller course but linked to the medical school and they’re keen to keep the standards up and so still selective rather than filling up the course indiscriminately.

Swansea had the campus right next to the sea with its own private beach. Exercise science is linked to the engineering school and the research being done was of particular interest to my eldest. They’re currently ranked i think 13th in the U.K. on the good university guide just above the university of Nottingham and the support and pastoral care has been great. The accomodation is mostly all new and on the beach and guaranteed for all first years.

Bath and Loughborough both great - Loughborough has a number of sports courses.
