2025 parent chat

She is doing BA hons dance. Her flat mates are all MT or acting. She said they all sat in the kitchen and chatted for a while but they were talking about going clubbing and she doesn’t want to so I think she felt a bit left out. But like her said to her, she will find her friends and they may not be her flatmates but that is ok. As long as she gets on with them as far as kitchen sharing goes that’s ok
Which accommodation is she staying in? My daughter is at the bridge but is doing ba hons dance

Yes, my daughter was in a flat with students from the uni (not even Conti) who didn't even move in for 2 weeks so none became her friends, but they were friendly. There are plenty of them who don't go clubbing. Once she meets others on the dance freshers events she'll feel better, and even more so in a week once she starts. But if we all support each other through this tough time for us, as we support them, we'll all hopefully survive xx

Thank you. Yes I am sure we will all survive. It is great having these groups we can chat to other parents in. Would be even harder without support from others xx

A week on how are you all? I miss mine so much but sounds like she’s met lots of friends, Wetherspoons has made a profit 🤣 they all made it on Tuesday to streaming day. Hopefully this weekend will be chilled for starting Monday x

Much the same! Really miss her, but after a wobbly start she has been out with new friends, made it to streaming and is looking forward to next week 🙂

Hi! My daughter has also just started at Conti on the Cert HE MT living at Guilden Village. She’s been really stressed by the travel and the buses. She’s been walking to the bus station in Guildford to get on the bus as she says otherwise they’re too full and they don’t stop. One this week was broken and they had to wait for the next one and she was worried as apparently they’d been told at induction that if they’re so much as a minute late they won’t be allowed in and disciplined. So she’s been giving herself plenty of time but that means leaving Guilden almost 2 hours before her start time, which seems mad, particularly on her 4 days of 8am starts, she’ll be getting up at half 5! Does everyone do this? Is this just how it is or is she missing something? Hope everyone’s young people are settling in so far x

Aren't there roadworks this week, so the normal bus has been rerouted?

Also, being induction week, I think they have all been starting at similar times. From next week they will be on their normal timetables, so they'll all have varied start and finish times. I will double check with my daughter. She got the trains this week because she said about roadworks and the bus not stopping where it normally does - unless I've got that wrong? I seem to remember similar with my daughter at first when she was on the cert (she's on BA this year), but then it settled down. I will double check with her and get back to you tomorrow - she's at the pub tonight after a busy first week!

Thank you so much 😊 Yes their usual stop is out of action which is why she went to the bus station in the first place but then said she wouldn’t have got on otherwise as they just drove past all the other bus stops full of conti students 🫣
She tried the train yesterday and found it easier but apparently they’re all cancelled today. Yes, hoping things will settle down once they all get into a routine 🤞
Hope your daughter enjoyed her first week! X

Hi my daughter is at The Bridge it’s opposite the train station. It’s a 20 min walk to Guilden so maybe yours could walk to the station then get the train in?

Yes, I think she’s going to try the train too, she was going to today but they’re all cancelled. I think she’s been worried that both trains and buses will be unreliable but hopefully she’s just been unlucky this week.
Does your daughter get the train in? Hope she’s enjoying so far x

My daughter is at the bridge and gets train in every day. Never had a problem with timings. About 3 min walk to conti

Hi yes she’s loving it although had a cold all week from mixing at freshers week. Yes she’s getting the train in. Seen they’re cancelled today it’s strange as going into London they’re working which is good as I’m meeting her today!

Bless her, mine is unwell too. I suppose it’s inevitable really. But glad she’s enjoying and have a lovely time together today. I bet you can’t wait! I’m coming down next week, couldn’t wait any longer 😂

Thank you we’ve had a lovely day went to watch Oliver then Covent Garden for dinner and look around didn’t want to say bye again, she’s so excited about it all and starting properly on Monday. She’s home next weekend for a dance show then the following weekend for a competition so it’s not going to be too long to wait. Enjoy next weekend x

Thanks, sounds perfect 😍
Definitely helps to have dates booked in so we know we’ll see them soon x

Hi all how’s everyone doing, they’ve made it to Christmas! Any of the MT parents going on Friday to watch the carol concert?

Really looking forward to having my daughter back for Christmas; I’m actually surprised how quickly the term has passed.
Sadly can’t make the Carol concert cos of work but loved seeing a video of them in the shopping centre today.
