How does work?

Total newbie to the concept of study abroad (SA). When my DD was looking at Unis she gave some thought to where she would be able to go but not the practicalities. Now it is a reality and need some advice. Has anyone gone to Europe for a year abroad post Brexit? How did the finances work? Accommodation? I'm hoping Exeter give my DD all the information but not holding my breath.

We're in the same boat. My son is at Lancaster doing History but has just had confirmation that he's spending his second year in Copenhagen. Everything is a bit daunting. My son is quite relaxed. One helpful thing is that my son was put in touch with a third year who spent last year in Copenhagen and he gave some good practical advice. But glad we've got this forum to swap advice and thoughts.

I do know they get a higher maintenence loan for the year, and there are various grants, as well as the Turing scheme but not sure of the details yet.

My daughter is at York and just found out she’s going to Paris next year. She has a meeting on 16/2 and I’m hoping she gets all the info at that regarding visa, finances, accommodation, term dates etc.

My son is at Lancaster going to Spain in September for the year. He has applied to be a language assistant with the British council but apart from that I have no idea what he does about finding accommodation/visas etc. I’m sure the uni will give some info but son isn’t very reliable on going to lectures etc. I don’t think he’ll even find out where he’s going until about June!

Just posted this on the FB group - getting very worried now 😥

Complete nightmare. Son (2nd year Architecture at Portsmouth) is leaving for Vienna on Friday to study at TU for a semester. We've battled through all the paperwork, sorted accommodation, visa etc but he is now having a horrendous time trying to work out what modules to study to make up the 30ects he needs for his degree. Some of the things he would be doing at Portsmouth are only available on the masters programme at TU. Most modules are only 2ects and require 2 hrs study time per week - not sure he'll see much of Vienna! The TU site for registering is soooo complicated and confusing and he's not getting much help or advice from either uni. Starting to get really worried now - does anyone have any experience of this or any helpful advice please. The deadline for registering is supposed to be 21/2 at 23.59 but getting conflicting info even on that!
What was supposed to be an amazing experience and opportunity is looking pretty terrifying at the moment 🤦

Most students were able to go to Europe this year, and next year it should be even easier with the visa since it won't be the first time round. Funding should be available through Turing, or they might get paid via British Council or work placement. Did your daughter get the information she needs?

My daughter is off to Sweden in September 2022 to study psychology placement. Any info would be much appreciated.

I don't really have any info, but just to say I spent my year abroad in Sweden years ago and loved it. I still keep in touch with people I met that year. Whereabouts is she going?

Newcastle uni offering zero info on year abroad in Spain. Anyone know;
1. How and where do we apply for funding?
2. Do we apply for the usual maintenance grant and fees via Student Finance?
3. How do we start the visa process?
4. What funding grants are available and how and when do we apply?
5. How do we apply for accommodation?
Thank you!
