Thanks. I think I just googled when freshers week was at Loughborough uni and that’s what I got.
Definitely sounds too early. We dropped off on 23rd Sept and that was one of the early halls. Loughborough was one of the later starts,8 all of my child's friends had already left by then.

My daughter just firmed as first choice, hoping to do self catering accommodation. Presume we wait for a link from the Uni to choose?
Yes, this is what I understand- on the Uni website under accommodation is a flow chart of what happens when - as I read it if they have firmed Loughborough they can make accommodation choices, when application opens, then on results day if they are accepted, they can book - not guaranteed to get choices, but will get accommodation- what course is your daughter hoping to do?

DS has firmed Loughborough for Economics so just fingers crossed he gets the grades now!
He really wants en suite, prepared to go for 15 meals a week catered or SC, as long as gets own bathroom!

Son started Loughborough last year.
If they have firmed or insured Loughborough then they will be given a slot to choose accomodation. The slot will be after just after results day. If you firmed then you can make more specific choices. In advance go through all the options on the Uni website and rank in order. Accomodation is evenly split across each time slot so you won’t loose out on options if your slot is later on. Be prepared to be flexible the choices literally disappear before your eyes. My son got his 3rd choice in Faraday.

My son has also made Loughborough his firm to do Sports Science. I've heard that you can't choose accommodation until results day and it's a nightmare 😲
Wasn’t a nightmare at all last year if it was a firmed choice. Flexibility is important they might not get their first choice

Son started CS in September. We wanted him to go catered en-suite but he was adament he wanted self catered because of the social aspect and he also said he wasn't paying 1.5K just for a toilet:ROFLMAO:. He wanted Faulkner Egginton and got it, he has been very happy there and says there is always someone in the kitchen so always someone to talk to

Hoping to be studying computer science. Anyone else doing similar?
Any advice on picking halls close to study or ones to aim for or avoid??

Computer Science is in Haslegrave Building. It close to most of the halls.

Engineering is to the west and the furthest away, there is a free shuttle across the campus if they are feeling lazy. And I think there are some arts lectures in the collage opposite side of the road near the main entrance.
Thanks, this has been soooooo helpful.
Just knowing I'm not the only parent starting to panic (hopefully unnecessarily!!)
Will look up Haslegrave Bldg. Feel I have done more virtual tours and research than my son (i'm clearly the control freak here)
Good to know they are all much of a muchness and the place seems friendly :)

Telford is also very cheap and there is a washbasin in each room. Everything including bedrooms are regularly cleaned.

I have a son in his 3rd Year at Loughborough (Electronic and Electrical Engineering). He was in Telford Hall in his 1st and 2nd year. He's currently in a house and has applied to go back into Telford for his 4th year. I'm happy to answer any questions or queries.
Thanks, been soooooo helpful.

Don't worry about building locations and stuff, they will cover this as part of Freshers and everywhere is pretty much a short walk including the off campus halls.

We are travelling back from USA on results day - is there anything I can do in advance to ensure we stand a fair chance at accommodation choices?

Hi my daughter has just firmed Loughborough as first choice for architecture engineering just wanted to pop on and say hi. My head is spinning from all the things we need to know and I feel out of my depth you would think I’m going uni 🤣🤣 I’m sure it will all work out in the end. No idea what is best re accommodation catered, self catered etc etc. As first timers would be grateful for any advice about anything to be honest. Accommodation pros and cons, packing etc etc. do they have to move their stuff Easter and Xmas or can they leave it there and any idea when freshers is or how we find out? Ps this group is so good I dont feel on my own now. Thanks in advance

Did you go to an offer holder day? We picked up a really good info sheet on accommodation there which had the prices of each very clearly and the length of contract. All appeared to cover from Sep - July including Christmas and Easter, suggesting no clear outs needed.
My understanding is they are all good in their own way, you have to work through your priorities with cost v location (almost all on campus anyway) v en suite v catered (and within that, number of meals per week). DS has managed to put them in an order.

Hi welcome to the group. I’m a first timer too. I’m hoping all the issues you have raised will become clearer as we take each step along the way.

I hope you don’t mind me asking what did they mean by that?
They were 20% over the normal number of Freshers as they underestimated the grades. so people ended up all over the place including a hotel in Leicester for a few weeks.

This year they upped the required grades so fewer Freshers and they should have space on campus for anybody who wants a room.
