They were 20% over the normal number of Freshers as they underestimated the grades. so people ended up all over the place including a hotel in Leicester for a few weeks.

This year they upped the required grades so fewer Freshers and they should have space on campus for anybody who wants a room.
Ok Thankyou

Did you go to an offer holder day? We picked up a really good info sheet on accommodation there which had the prices of each very clearly and the length of contract. All appeared to cover from Sep - July including Christmas and Easter, suggesting no clear outs needed.
My understanding is they are all good in their own way, you have to work through your priorities with cost v location (almost all on campus anyway) v en suite v catered (and within that, number of meals per week). DS has managed to put them in an order.
Yes we went to an offer day but we could t look at any accommodation just the campus tour. Thanks for the advice I think there are prices for 2021 on their website so will look at that and try get them in order a bit. Thanks for the advice

Hi welcome to the group. Iā€™m a first timer too. Iā€™m hoping all the issues you have raised will become clearer as we take each step along the way.
Thankyou and agree just got to spend some time looking into it all and keeping our fingers crossed šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Hi my daughter has just firmed Loughborough as first choice for architecture engineering just wanted to pop on and say hi. My head is spinning from all the things we need to know and I feel out of my depth you would think Iā€™m going uni šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ Iā€™m sure it will all work out in the end. No idea what is best re accommodation catered, self catered etc etc. As first timers would be grateful for any advice about anything to be honest. Accommodation pros and cons, packing etc etc. do they have to move their stuff Easter and Xmas or can they leave it there and any idea when freshers is or how we find out? Ps this group is so good I dont feel on my own now. Thanks in advance
All the prices are on the website, I believe all halls are at least 39 weeks so they are allowed to stay over Xmas and Easter., Falk Egg is the cheapest, single 6' 3" beds, good sized room but kitchen is a bit small. Shared bathroom, self catering, very sociable. About 20 min walk to engineering or take the free shuttle.

Note that it will be an extra week or two if they go for Freshers as that isn't included in the web prices.

And talking of accommodation and prices. If they want to move to private housing next year then expect to pay a deposit in second term of year one to secure a place and that private rents are usually 52 weeks from July to June. So will be paying while they aren't potentially there over summer.

Iā€™m guessing someone will be in contact re freshers have no clue about that at the moment
Yes, will get Freshers details once they have accommodation as moving in dates and Freshers varies slightly by hall but expect to be moving in around 3rd week of September.

visited today before A levels.
if you arenā€™t aware, you can take a self-guided tour round the campus any time!
Went to see Computer Science Bldg, was amazing on such a hot, sunny day. Beautiful grounds, EVERYONE we came across was friendly, helpful and full of advice. All say ā€œ dont panic its fab hereā€. Really like one big family.
All very casual, skimpy tops and shorts today! very different to 6th form business wear!
Looking at accommodation i thought Telford was 1 bldg, C Parsons was another on-lineā€¦ but each one has a group of bldgs around either a couryard, bbq/picnic area, etcā€¦ these become your Halls. Freshers get a t-shirt for their hall, so first week youā€™ll know. anyone wearing red is from my group of bldgs!!! Great for shy people like my son. Was also reassured that most rooms are pretty quiet after 10pm. Although friends can visit each others halls, after 10pm their card only works in their own hall. so no invite, no way inšŸ˜€
each Hall has subs for using common room and arranging events. this is optional but gets them mixing with others.
bus is free within campus and you pay to go into Loughborough town and back, but on site free to hop on/off every 5 mins.
clean, tidy, safe campus.
There are 16,000 on site so must view it like any town. if u leave bike chained up overnight it is likely to disappear, so use lockable bike sheds.
so excited for our kids, going to be amazing.

Just a question? When do we get the accommodation link? Is it anytime now?
My understanding is by end of May so next week. I rang accommodation about a month ago to ask a question about something else and thats what they said. I hope that helps. I have no idea what/where we are thinking of going tbh so much choice. may have to be lucky dip on the day lol

Thank you. I was just afraid we had missed the link from them.

Just a quick couple of point. if you are looking at computer science then its all in person however there are still some courses which have some lectures online. If this is an issue then check with the uni.

Rooms are generally quiet during the weekdays but as you would expect it can be noisy Fri and Saturday and like most student accommodation the walls aren't very thick. And the key cards I are restricted to individual flats which is good. Be aware the side gate near Falk Egg which leads to The Holt also shuts at 10pm so you will need to walk from the main entrance if leave/return late. Not a biggie but adds about 15 minutes to your walk.

The common room also has the laundry rooms so they can use other laundry rooms during the day but if doing laundry later on when its quieter then they will have to use their own. This did affect my child as at one point 2 out of the 3 washers were broken for a couple of weeks in his common room.

Hello everyone, my son has been allocated Towers accommodation and I just wanted to know if the cookers have electric or induction hobs? I just spotted that the pans i've purchased are suitable for all heat sources EXCEPT induction !!

Hi my daughter has accommodation in The Holt (due to study psychology)1. do they run shuttle busses to this hall as the spirit bus does not appear to go near there ? 2. Are the hobs induction? 3. Is she supposed to have paid a deposit as she has not been asked for one (she has been checking each day for emails)
