Just thought I’d break the silence and start the UoAberdeen chat! My dd is in 1st year staying in North Court at Hillhead and she’s moving in to private halls in Sept. Had an emotional start but she absolutely loves it now.

She’ll be fine at most of the accommodation at Hillhead Student village as all the halls are centred round the main hub with a co-op, bar, restaurant and 24hr help desk. She did say to put down any halls except Adam Smith, Wavell and Fyfe as friends staying there don’t like the food (catered halls), have communal shower/toilet blocks with cubicles and are a bit old - not smaller flats but a long corridor with rooms (like the old fashioned halls). All the others are in ‘flats’ with a shared kitchen area, toilets and shower room between 4-6 students.
But it’s a great social life and a short walk to park, beach etc and only apptox £10 home in a taxi from city centre!
I have to say student support were fantastic to her and me when she struggled to settle at the very beginning! Only took a few weeks though and she’s happy now! Any other questions just ask and I’ll find out for you!

DD starting in Sept, UoAberdeen, Psychology. We will be visiting Aberdeen, for the first time, for the offer holders day and will be looking at the accommodation. From what we have seen online (DD is looking for self-catering, ensuite) private halls are much nicer than student village. She is keen to be at Hillhead Student Village with all the new students, but it looks like New Carnegie Court is the only self-catering, ensuite option. Any advice?

Thank you so much for this, It helps to hear that the support is there. Especially as we are in London and feel she'll be so far.

The support has been fab so feel reassured by that! There’s also always someone at the reception desk in the hub at Hillhead so if they lose their keys or have a problem there’s an adult there to help. I have the 24hr number saved on my phone too just in case! Hope your dd loves it!

Hi Lesley. We are from N.Ireland and my daughter is currently in first year too, staying at New Carnegie. She’s booked Trinity Court for 2nd year accommodation. She absolutely loves it. Only downside is the cost of flights home however my hubby is Scottish so he sometimes brings her home or leaves her back to uni by car/boat tas part of his visit to his mum. We will also have to pay for storage in Aberdeen for some of her belongings over the summer when she’s home.

Hii Debbie. My daughter has booked Trinity court fir next year!! The washing machine/tumble drier and dish washer were definite pluses!! 😂 So glad your daughter is enjoying it too, I think it has a good feel about it. We’re lucky we don’t have to pay fir flights home etc and we have family in Aberdeen who have offered to store things so fortunate there too.
Just can’t believe their first year is nearly over!

Hi. My DD is currently a 1st year at University of Aberdeen studying Psychology & German. She really wanted an en-suite and her 1st preference was an en-suite at New Carnegie and if she didn’t get that she would have liked Student Roost at Pittodrie St.Her priority was having an en-suite. She was lucky and got the en-suite at New Carnegie. However for 2nd year Accomodation having an en-suite isn’t important to her. She’s booked a 3 bed flat at Trinity Court - 1 bathroom shared by at least 2 possibly 3 if another friend books. We viewed a lot of private halls last August and went to the uni open day - I took lots of photos & some video of the private halls and uni flats. Not all Accomodation was available to see at Hillhead. But we did see a shower in one of them that you wouldn’t want to get into. I still have all photos & videos on my phone if you have any questions. My daughter is loving her time at Aberdeen.

Sorry somehow missed this! My dd wanted ensuite too but does t have this at birth court. However they have a 2’bsthrooms’ one with just a toilet and sink, the other has a shower, toilet and sink. This is between 4 of them and they all keep It clean which is good.

Hi! My dd will be starting at UOA this September. As an English’s applicant, all the en-suite options had gone, but she has a place at Grant Court. Is anyone else’s YP in Grant Court? Anyone else from England too?
