Yesterday was my daughter’s graduation for her foundation degree and there is so much that I wished I had known in advance.
The ceremony was in the cathedral and was quite spectacular. Gowns were collected from a leisure centre about 10 minute walk away (drop off only - free, half hour £1.50, all day £15 for parking), official photos are taken there and there is a shop for graduation gifts. We dropped her off and parked in Delamere multi-storey (£3.50) having failed to navigate to Market Place multi-storey, she arrived at the cathedral before us.
We sat around the corner to the right of the stage and got a better view although they also had tv screens around the cathedral. Graduates are called onto the stage in groups - masters, bachelors, foundation, in alphabetical order by surname. It’s a bit of a conveyor belt, each graduate is announced, they walk across the stage, shake hands and walk off.
After the ceremony we filtered out into the marquee and gardens for Prosecco and celebration biscuits where we took photos.
Gowns to be collected from 8am, to be seated by 10am for 10.30 start, ceremony approximately one hour. We were back at the car by 1.15. Gowns to be returned by 6pm.
There are toilets in the cathedral but I’m not sure if they were accessible prior to the ceremony.
