Hi all,

It was so great to support lots of you on results day this year.

I've created this thread for you to ask anything about University of Leicester.

I am a Leicester graduate, having studied Modern Languages with Management (with a year abroad) between 2008 -2012. Upon graduating, I was elected President of the Students' Union. I now work at the University as Head of UK Student Recruitment and Outreach. I met my wife (Anna) at the University and we decided to stay here. I am Dad to a toddler (Leo) and a baby (Remy) and so can totally emphasise with the contant anxieties and stresses of being a parent (albeit, I'm dealing with nurseries at the moment and don't expect to be dealing with university applications until the late 2030s 😅).

I have been at Leicester a long time now and have many years of advising parents, carers, students, teachers and advisers. If there is something I don't know I will ensure I find the right answer for you.

Some of my colleagues will also be posting on this thread now and then. I have set up notifications for this thread but if I'm on annual leave or it's the weekend, I may not see your question straight away and so if you do have an urgent question, I'd recommend contacting study@le.ac.uk and our awesome enquiries team can be on hand to support you.

Please do not hesitate in reaching out in this thread or sending my a private message!

Best wishes,

Dan!

Hi, we will be attending the Open Day on Saturday, 14th. My daughter is autistic and we would like to speak to your disability support team as this is an important part in making a decision where to apply.
There aren't any information in the program, so I hope you can help out.

Hi there,

Our Student Support team will be on hand to chat in the information fair in the marquee on main campus on Saturday. You will be able to talk about specific requirements. There are also two options to hear from Student Support and Well-being (Student Support and Wellbeing – 12.00pm – George Porter LTA, 1.15 – Bob Burgess, Room 0.02)).

For your info, we also have a quiet registration point should you require it. This will be taking place in room 0.03 of the Sir Bob Burgess Building, right next to the multistorey car park, when you arrive. Our staff will be on hand to direct you too.

I have had a quick chat with our Head of AccessAbility at the University and she has said if you have any further questions after your visit, please do not hesitate in contacting accessable@le.ac.uk. You can find all the info here too https://le.ac.uk/accessability.

Please feel free to drop me a private message if there is anything I can do to support.

Thanks!

Hi Dan, has anyone received an offer for Leicester 2025 yet? Our DS submitted his application in Nov and he’s still waiting to hear. We were just wondering when they normally make decisions as we’re keen to get offer holder days booked in so he can make his final decisions. Thanks!

Morning @Daisykate - it will depend on what course he applied for. I’d recommend emailing admissions@le.ac.uk with UCAS ID to check on the status. Feel free to mention that I advised you to contact on this forum and copy me in (Dan.flatt@le.ac.uk).

Thank you, I’ll do that this evening when I get home from work. Many thanks!

Hi, I have a query about offer holder days at Leicester. Do you know if there will be any specific sessions for parents? We're going in a couple of weeks for computer science, but not got much information so far. Thanks

Hi @Lavender38 - there is indeed a parents programme. Individual programmes will be sent very soon.

There will be a 'supporting your young person into HE' session, including a question and answer panel with various support services staff from across the University (welfare, accommodation etc.). We will also have a 'parents lounge' throughout the day where colleagues will be on hand to chat through anything too.

I hope you enjoy your visit :)

Hi Dan and Leicester Uni. Just wanted to say a huge thank you. I emailed admissions as you suggested and we got a response the next day. Although my YP didn’t quite get the course he wanted, he has been offered a very close alternative, and the admissions tutor was kind enough to take the time and email him personally to explain why they’ve offered an alternative. It made such a difference, thank you. Please pass my thanks to A.Carr, his contact was very much appreciated by us both. Thanks again!

Just wanted to send my thanks to everyone for Saturday's Offer Holder Day. It was so well run, my YP loved the lecture and the group seminar. While we got a chance to speak to one of his prospective professors during the meet and greet session. Every single young ambassador we met was a credit to the university, it wasn't the greatest weather but they were all smiling, positive and had great things to say about their experiences and in their opinion the pros and cons of the accommodation - city versus village. It has really left an impression on us all, and it is now our YP's first choice ! Thank you.

Hi, if DD chooses Leicester as her insurance choice, will she be still able to get a room she needs? She has disabilities and will be able get larger room but don’t know if that will be the case if it’s uoL is her insurance choice. Help!

Hi, my daughter missed your normal open days but has an offer for English Lit so was hoping to attend an offer holders day so can you tell me when they are please? Thank you (she says she hasnt had any emails)

Hi Dan,

My DS is starting in sept and has been allocated a room at Bowder court. Is there anyway way of finding out any other students that will be there too please?

Kind regards,
Tee

Hi Tee,

We have our Unibuddy Community group which all students can join. There is a group in there specifically for Accommodation and so I’d recommend he joins and introduces himself. A lot of people are meeting there and then creating separate group chats for individuals accommodation blocks and so he may well find a Bowder one already set up. He can find the Community here: https://community.unibuddy.co/invite/67066856b25eab5f58e7a6f3

Hopefully this helps!

Dan
